Telling Maria

The Star Malaysia - Star2 - - What To Watch -

WHAT I look forward to most about Telling Maria is a segment where the interviewees are asked to divulge a secret.

Hosted by Luisa Maria Leitao, Telling Maria is a talk show where viewers get a glimpse into the personal and professional lives of top entertainers in Hong Kong and the surrounding region such as Andy Lau, Nicholas Tse, Huang Xiaoming (pic), Carina Lau and Kelly Chen.

Maria has a way of getting her guests to open up about their private struggles during the interviews.

Cantopop queen Sammi Cheng shares how years of constantly striving to stay on top of her game led to depression. In the interview, Cheng also admitted she was difficult to work with, taking her frustrations out on her assistant at times. It’s nice to see a more human side to the popular singer, and learn how she has since turned over a new leaf.

At the end of the show, Maria convinces her guests to tell her something they have never told anyone before.

Naturally, my ears perk up at this. Tony Leung Ka Fai shares he harbours hopes of becoming a teacher when he retires while Gong Li reveals there’s a certain brand of pyjamas she must put on as soon as she gets home.

OK, I won’t give away anymore of these secrets. Well, just one more: Angelica Lee once had a supernatural encounter at a hotel!
