Malaysian graduates of Birmingham Conservatoire are hosting a fundraising concert to support the next generation of talent to study at the British music institution. It will feature acclaimed Malaysian musicians pianist Bernard Tan, UK-based pianists Jeanette Wong (Birmingham Royal Ballet) and Ken Lim, and violinist Chin Shi Ling. Others include bass-baritone and choral conductor Mak Chi Hoe; sopranos Rachel Tan, Ho Chi Mei and Bui Yik Ling; and mezzo-soprano Yi Ling Chaing. They will be joined by Taiwanese alumni and pianists, Peng I-Hsuan and Liao Pei-Chun.

The KLPac Orchestra, conducted by Lee Kok Leong, dives into the classical repertoire with a dash of local flavour. It begins with Yeo Chow Shern’s stirring Celebration And Dance, and moves on to Max Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy In E-Flat Major Op.46 featuring renowned violinist Zhao Tian and talented harpist Bryan Lee. It wraps up with one of Beethoven’s most celebrated work – Symphony No.3 In E-Flat Major Op.55.

Nafas, a Nusantara new roots, global fusion melody and a bassdriven rhythm trio, presents Tommee Balukea, Aminah and Salim. Combining pentatonic traditions of the East and played from a live controller platform, Balukea’s enchanting lap-harp, guitar lines and powerful vocals complement Aminah’s free-style improvisations and Salim’s bassculture influences and dub-style arrangements.

The Orchestra of Methodist Girls’ School Penang is a growing school-based orchestra with a total of 58 passionate players. They play the violin, viola, cello, double bass, all percussionrelated instruments, flute, oboe and clarinet.
The Methodist Girls’ School Orchestra was established about a decade ago, and have had many renowned guest players and conductors be a part of it.
