Malaysian grad­u­ates of Birmingham Conservatoire are host­ing a fundrais­ing con­cert to sup­port the next gen­er­a­tion of tal­ent to study at the Bri­tish mu­sic in­sti­tu­tion. It will fea­ture ac­claimed Malaysian mu­si­cians pi­anist Bernard Tan, UK-based pi­anists Jeanette Wong (Birmingham Royal Bal­let) and Ken Lim, and vi­o­lin­ist Chin Shi Ling. Oth­ers in­clude bass-bari­tone and choral con­duc­tor Mak Chi Hoe; so­pra­nos Rachel Tan, Ho Chi Mei and Bui Yik Ling; and mezzo-so­prano Yi Ling Chaing. They will be joined by Tai­wanese alumni and pi­anists, Peng I-Hsuan and Liao Pei-Chun.

The KL­Pac Orches­tra, con­ducted by Lee Kok Leong, dives into the clas­si­cal reper­toire with a dash of lo­cal flavour. It be­gins with Yeo Chow Sh­ern’s stir­ring Cel­e­bra­tion And Dance, and moves on to Max Bruch’s Scot­tish Fan­tasy In E-Flat Ma­jor Op.46 fea­tur­ing renowned vi­o­lin­ist Zhao Tian and tal­ented harpist Bryan Lee. It wraps up with one of Beethoven’s most cel­e­brated work – Sym­phony No.3 In E-Flat Ma­jor Op.55.

The Orches­tra of Methodist Girls’ School Pe­nang is a grow­ing school-based orches­tra with a to­tal of 58 pas­sion­ate play­ers. They play the vi­o­lin, vi­ola, cello, dou­ble bass, all per­cus­sion­re­lated in­stru­ments, flute, oboe and clar­inet.

The Methodist Girls’ School Orches­tra was es­tab­lished about a decade ago, and have had many renowned guest play­ers and con­duc­tors be a part of it.
