LESS is more with this sublime family drama about a traditional Malay wedding in a kampung. The legendary Datuk Rosnani Jalil takes on the role of Mak Tok, a stern yet loving grandmother to Farah (Janna Nick).
The events in Kerja Kahwin unfolds over a period of two days as the whole kampung gets together to help prepare for Farah’s wedding.
For the longest of time, I always thought a wedding would not be complete without an Anuar Zain song. This movie proves me wrong.
Kerja Kahwin introduces the important aspects of a wedding from food to decoration, entertainment and marriage officiant in a humorous manner. There are also plenty of surprises along the way as some guests are funnier than others with “mak cik tapao” (takeaway auntie) being my favourite. Also, look out for a memorable cameo by Aziz M. Osman. Kerja Kahwin does not have a life-changing story that will blow your mind. But it is a heartwarming tale about ordinary people doing things out of love. And, that is what sticks in your mind long after you have left the cinema.
