DIRECTOR Andy Muschietti (Mama) hits all the right notes with his adaptation of Stephen King’s novel.
Even though you are cringing throughout the movie waiting for the killer clown to appear, you cringe even more as you don’t expect to care so much for the young protagonists.
This makes you watch every scene intently even though you so badly want to look away.
IT also excels thanks to Bill Skarsgard’s performance as Pennywise, the menacing clown – that speech pattern, over-the-top mannerism and the bright blue eyes accompanied by an eerie rabbit-tooth smile ... just creepy.
Perhaps what’s also striking about the film is that it tackles how monstrous some parents can be to their children, especially today when cases of parents abusing their own offspring are sadly rampant. – Mumtaj Begum
