Law & Order: SVU Season 18

The Star Malaysia - Star2 - - Showbiz - – S. Indramalar

EIGHTEEN seasons, over 390 episodes and still one of my favourite procedurals on TV. With Mariska Hargitay still holding the lead as Lieutenant Olivia Benson, the show follows a team of NYPD detectives who hunt down sexual predators each week.

It’s not surprising that the series has lasted so long; flip through the newspaper each day and we come across news on sexual crime committed not just in the United States but on our own homeground.

Brutes abound everywhere and the stories on SVU are far more than to entertain. The stories are often “ripped from the headlines”. They are real and the series is a platform to educate.

It’s never all right to sexually assault a child, a woman or a man. No means no. Silence doesn’t mean consent. The victim is never at fault and should always speak out and report a crime. These are lessons we must take in.

This is why, to me, the show is so successful and should keep on going. The lives of the regular characters are interesting but always secondary. Way to go, SVU.

Law & Order: SVU Season 18 airs every Thursday at 8pm on Diva (Astro Ch 702).
