Field fix for Mit­subishi mod­els

MIT­SUBISHI Mo­tors Malaysia (MMM), the of­fi­cial dis­trib­u­tor of Mit­subishi Mo­tors ve­hi­cles in Malaysia, has is­sued a field fix for their Lancer and Out­lander mod­els im­ported from Ja­pan and the lo­cally-as­sem­bled ASX to re­place the en­gine con­trol re­lay of the ve­hi­cles.

Some 5,000 cars are af­fected and they in­clude the ASX com­pact SUV from March 2015 to Novem­ber 2016, Lancer sedan from De­cem­ber 2014 to Fe­bru­ary 2016 and Out­lander SUV from De­cem­ber 2015 to June 2016.

The re­lay pro­tects the en­gine’s ECU from any sud­den surge of volt­age.

If it is not re­placed, the in­ter­nal parts of the re­lay may fail and sub­se­quently af­fect the en­gine’s ECU func­tion.

Sep­a­rately, MMM will also be con­duct­ing a field fix cam­paign to re­place the pas­sen­ger side airbag in­fla­tor for 115 units of the Pa­jero Ex­ceed that was man­u­fac­tured from March 2010 to July 2012.

There is the po­ten­tial for the pas­sen­ger side airbag to re­lease metal frag­ments when de­ployed and may cause in­juries to the driver and is part of the global Takata airbag re­call cam­paign.

“Safety is our ut­most pri­or­ity, thus MMM is tak­ing this ini­tia­tive to as­sure cus­tomer’s safety and re­grets the in­con­ve­nience caused to the af­fected cus­tomers,” said MMM chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer To­moyuki Shin­nishi.

MMM will is­sue no­ti­fi­ca­tion letters to all af­fected Mit­subishi own­ers and the full cost of the re­place­ment will be borne by the com­pany.
