Teacher sees allure in Persona
To loyal owners, Proton cars are seen as great value for money.
FOR Ku Mohd Azrie Ku Azizan, the Proton Persona is a great value-for-money deal in terms of price, handling and safety features.
“When it comes to safety, compared to the previous models, Proton has really improved a lot, especially as the company pays more attention to the smallest details to ensure they build a car that is fun to drive and whilst offering affordable safe cars for its customers, just like my main car, the new Persona which I bought in 2017,” said the 28-year-old English language lecturer.
He was impressed by the Persona’s design. “It was like love at first sight. The Persona’s design has a modern touch with bold edges around its face, making it look forceful and strong,” said Ku Mohd Azrie, who works at a local community college in Sungai Petani, Kedah.
His first experience with a Proton car was in 2010 when he bought a Savvy from a used car dealership.
Proton cars have added plenty of colour in Ku Mohd Azrie’s life journey.
“My wife is currently driving the first batch of Proton Iriz. The car is not just a vehicle for us, but a little more than that. What’s so special about the car? Well, the Iriz witnessed the most memorable moment of our lives’ journey when I proposed to my wife in front of the car,” he recalled fondly.
Ku Mohd Azrie also collaborated with some friends to set up Proton car club Provoc in November 2016.
His new Persona is not only a useful workhorse, but has also helped him to connect with other Persona owners.
“As a Proton car enthusiast, it has always been my dream to gather a group of people who are passionate about their cars. To me, a club functions as a platform to socialise and share ideas and views,” said Azrie.
Ku Mohd Azrie added he would like to drive the Suprima S with a manual gearbox, if given the chance.
“Proton cars are designed for drivers, and provide a nice ride and handling. Proton has evolved so much in terms of providing good safety features in their cars.”
Ku Mohd Azrie also said Malaysians want good quality cars with good after-sales services, and Proton needs to evolve in order to change people’s perception.
“I have tested and driven so many cars before, but if you were to compare the prices, handling and safety features, nothing can beat a Proton,” he said.
