IN the UK, not all schools/colleges are open to international students.

Among top UK boarding schools that accept foreigners is Concord College, which takes in students for Year 9, GCSEs as well as A-Levels.

Concord College achieved 82% A*-A grades in 2017 for GCSEs and 85% A*-A grades in A Levels. In 2017, the A-Levels grades were at 97% A*-B-. Out of every 10 students, 8.5 would obtain A*-A grades in A-Levels.

“As England’s premier international school, Concord College is where young people can flourish, find confidence and a sense of selfworth while achieving the very highest academic standards. The real art of education is to develop the confidence and self-worth of the young person holding the ‘passport’ grades provide.

“Moral values and soft skills of empathy, communication, team-working and time management are just as important to develop the confidence so central to any young person’s future,” said Mr Neil G Hawkins, principal of Concord College.

If you are considering Concord College, the first criteria you ought to be aware of is your child’s results – they need to have strong grades.

The next thing to note is the entrance test, which at the moment mainly tests candidates on critical thinking, logical deduction and analytical skills in addition to mastery of the English language.

The interview prior to studying abroad also plays a significant role in determining a student’s ability to obtain a much coveted seat.

Also, you might want to encourage your child to take part in academic co-curricular activities or, have certificates in any musical instrument or qualifications that indicate your child’s ability in a specific skillset.

For all top boarding schools in the UK, it is advisable to put in an application as early as two years in advance. Selective colleges such as Concord tend to fill up quite quickly.

Early application also means paying an application fee earlier, which may save you a little, given inflation that occurs over the years.
