While fresh fruits are rec­om­mended to di­a­bet­ics as a health­ier source of nat­u­ral sugar, GI val­ues and sugar con­tents dif­fer ac­cord­ing to the type of fruit.

For ex­am­ple, ap­ples have a GI value of 39, which is in the low range, while wa­ter­melon is in the high range with a GI value of 72. GI val­ues are higher in dried fruits, as the loss of wa­ter makes the sugar con­tent more sat­u­rated.

Hence, it is best for peo­ple to check the gly­caemic in­dex and sugar con­tent of all foods to en­sure they are al­ways on top of their health.
