Beware of toppings
Pasta has a low GI value of 30 to 60, making it a suitable food for people who need to control their blood glucose level. However, attention should be paid to what goes on top of the pasta.
Ready-made pasta sauces may taste savoury instead of sweet but can contain around 6g to 12g of sugar per half cup serving, approximately the same amount as a chocolate chip cookie.
While people can opt for tomato-based sauce, which has a lower sugar content, they have to be careful when adding more ingredients into the pot.
