Sabah companies urged to invest in state’s developmen­t

TAWAU: More than 20 Bursa Malaysia-listed companies in Sabah will be called to discuss about investing in the state’s developmen­t, said Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

He said this was part of efforts to boost economic growth, create job opportunit­ies for the locals and ensure that the companies contribute to the state’s developmen­t, adding that he would be contacting the companies directly.

“I have contacted the owner of Hap Seng (Tan Sri Lau Cho Kun, chairman of Hap Seng Consolidat­ed Bhd) to urge the company to invest, and he told me that the company will be investing RM1bil in Sabah,” he said in a speech at the Chinese New Year open house at the Sabah Chinese High School here yesterday.

Meanwhile, Mohd Shafie said the state government would provide the platform for investors to expedite the applicatio­n process.
