Slain terrorist Noordin finally buried in Johor
PONTIAN: Slain terrorist Noordin Mat Top has been buried at the Kampung Melayu Muslim cemetery.
His body, transported in a van with police escorts, arrived at the village mosque here yesterday at about 6pm for prayers and was later taken to the cemetery where it was buried at 7pm.
Over 300 people, including family members and villagers crowded the cemetery. The ceremony lasted for about 45 minutes.
It went on smoothly with about 100 police personnel manning the security and preventing non-family members from entering the funeral plot.
Family members who attended the ceremony were Noordin’s wife Siti Rahmah Rusdi, his father-in-law Rusdi Hamid, his brother in-law Supriyo Sutekno, 50, and siblings.
Supriyo, representing the family, said they were thankful that Noordin was put to rest and the ceremony went on smoothly but was disappointed that it took so long for the body to be brought back for burial.
“As a Muslim, Noordin was supposed to be buried as soon as possible,” he said.
Noordin, who was said to be the mastermind behind several devastating bomb blasts in Indonesia, was shot dead by police in Java on Sept 17.
