Slain ter­ror­ist Noordin fi­nally buried in Jo­hor

PONTIAN: Slain ter­ror­ist Noordin Mat Top has been buried at the Kam­pung Me­layu Mus­lim ceme­tery.

His body, trans­ported in a van with po­lice es­corts, ar­rived at the vil­lage mosque here yes­ter­day at about 6pm for pray­ers and was later taken to the ceme­tery where it was buried at 7pm.

Over 300 peo­ple, in­clud­ing fam­ily mem­bers and vil­lagers crowded the ceme­tery. The cer­e­mony lasted for about 45 min­utes.

It went on smoothly with about 100 po­lice per­son­nel man­ning the se­cu­rity and pre­vent­ing non-fam­ily mem­bers from en­ter­ing the fu­neral plot.

Fam­ily mem­bers who at­tended the cer­e­mony were Noordin’s wife Siti Rahmah Rusdi, his fa­ther-in-law Rusdi Hamid, his brother in-law Supriyo Sute­kno, 50, and sib­lings.

Supriyo, rep­re­sent­ing the fam­ily, said they were thank­ful that Noordin was put to rest and the cer­e­mony went on smoothly but was dis­ap­pointed that it took so long for the body to be brought back for burial.

“As a Mus­lim, Noordin was sup­posed to be buried as soon as pos­si­ble,” he said.

Noordin, who was said to be the mas­ter­mind be­hind sev­eral dev­as­tat­ing bomb blasts in In­done­sia, was shot dead by po­lice in Java on Sept 17.
