Preschool with a difference

-

“BASIC education was not the only criterion I was looking for when it came to choosing a school for my son. His emotional well-being and behavioural development were equally important,” says Adik Istining Diah, mother of Dimas Shevawardhana, three.

“I found that Insight kids Preschool catered to his needs in terms of his education as well as his social and emotional development.”

Insight kids manager Angela Victor confirms that an independent research assessment conducted on Insight kids students reports they are up to two years ahead of their chronological age with regard to their communication and socialisation skills.

During the EQ sessions, which are a significant part of selected Insight kids Programs, children learn important values such as responsibility as well as to manage various emotions, to self motivate and to lead.

The assessment also showed that 66.7% of Insight kids students are ranked superior in terms of their analytical abilities.

When asked about the Insight kids curriculum, Angela says, “Insight kids Preschool prepares children for international schools, private schools as well as local government schools. It utilises a well-proven British curriculum for English and Mathematics. In addition, Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin are also taught intensively.

“Many parents drill their children on letters, numbers and colours, but not surprisingly, this can be ineffective in stimulating a child’s growth. It is better to pique their curiosity and to encourage them to learn new things daily.

“It is this simple yet crucial child development principle that the Insight kids Amazing World thematic curriculum is built upon.

“At Insight kids, we understand that each child is unique. Hence, we incorporate a customised teaching programme that identifies each child’s strengths and learning styles to tailor class---

es to their needs. The environment also encourages children to explore, and it challenges them to learn. Our students-to-teacher ratios are kept low, with small classrooms to ensure individual attention is possible.

“We also record developments weekly and provide this information to parents in order to enable them to keep track of their child’s progress.”

It is critical for parents to understand their child’s learning and thinking style. Some parents will question their child’s developmental speed, expecting them to fit into what they perceive as the “norm”, but it is important to understand that different children will develop different skills and competencies at different stages of growth.

That is why collaborating with parents to identify each child’s strengths and weaknesses, and to nurture them based on their uniqueness is an important element at Insight kids.

According to Adik, she has noticed improvements in Dimas’ behaviour.

“He is now independent when it comes to reading phonetically and drawing his favourite cars, even though it has only been four months!

“Every morning, he looks forward to going to school and even asks, ‘Bonda, when is the next school day?’ What more can a parent ask for?” she adds.

Angela encourages parents to visit Insight kids Centres at Damansara Heights or Ampang to find out more about other programmes available at Insight kids.

“At Insight kids, we incorporate the latest scientific and psychological research utilising a combination of experiential learning and interactive activities.

“Other than the Insight kids Preschool, we also have the Insight kids Complete Brain and Character Development Program as well as the Insight kids Complete Brain Language Programs where children are taught Reading and Creative Writing, Bahasa Malaysia or Mandarin.

“A clinical psychologist is also resident at the centre’s Clinical Psychology Clinic and is able to provide various assessments, therapy and advice on learning difficulties.”

Insight kids Complete Brain and Character Development Program for children aged two to 12 years utilise a holistic approach to maximise IQ and EQ by stimulating both the left and right brain.

Insight kids Complete Brain Language Programs utilise both the phonics and word recognition methods to ensure that despite his or her learning style, your child learns to read quickly.

Children who have mastered strong reading skills can then progress to Insight kids Literature and Creative Writing Program.

This month also marks the launch of the new Insight TEENS Program. Angela says, “This programme is designed to help teens develop correct attitudes, competencies, values and social skills which will help them navigate their way to adulthood.”
