M’sians unite in helping teacher

Woman was living in squalid condition for years

-

MALAYSIANS from different races came together to assist an 85-year-old woman after news of her living in a squalid condition spread, Sin Chew Daily reported.

Former teacher Molly Yeo, who could not take care of herself, was living alone in a squalid home in Ampang since her son left their house three years ago.

Yeo was depending on her neighbours for food over the past few years, it reported.

A Malay woman alerted Community Policing Malaysia founder and president Kuan Chee Heng after learning about Yeo’s living condition.

Kuan appealed on his Facebook for volunteers to help Yeo after he visited her.

To Kuan’s surprise, about 20 people responded, including a Malay mother and her son who came all the way from Seremban.

However, the group faced some difficulty in the beginning as Yeo refused to let them into her house.

After much persuasion, the group managed to get in and clean the house where a rubbish truck had to make two trips to clear the huge amount of rubbish from her home.

Firemen also helped to clean the floor while some volunteers painted the house, it reported.

Kuan said a Malay lady helped to trim Yeo’s hair and nails while an Indian gave her a pillow and household stuff and a Chinese gave new clothes as many others chipped in.

Arrangements have been made for Yeo to stay in an old folks home.

> Chinese actress Tang Wei, who is married to South Korean film director Kim Tae-yong, delivered a baby girl in Hong Kong, reported Guang Ming Daily.

The 36-year-old artiste shared the good news on social media recently.

On the post, Tang wrote that her 3.41kg newborn was healthy and thanked everyone for their support.

Tang married Kim in a simple ceremony in Sweden on July 12, 2014.
