Veteran Fazli wins Round 8 in Temerloh

PETALING JAYA: Veteran Ahmad Fazli Sham bagged his second win of the season with a lights to flag victory in Round 8 of the Petronas AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championsh­ip in Temerloh.

Starting from third on the grid, Fazli powered his Yamaha to the front from the start. He held on to take the chequered flag in 13:22.848 in the crash-filled CP130 race.

Mohd Fitri Ashraf Razali was second in 13:24.098 in his Yamaha while Norizman Ismail, in a Honda, clocked 13:24.819 to finish third.

“When I snatched the lead, I just put my head down and gunned for the finish. I didn’t know what was happening behind me,” said Fazli.

Overall leader Kasma Daniel Kasmayuddi­n could only finish eighth in his Yamaha, his worst round of the season. But he still leads the title chase in the premier class with 158 points. Fazli is second on 136 points.

The next race, the penultimat­e round, is in Jempol, Negri Sembilan, from Oct 22-23.
