Immigraton to hunt entry point intruders
KUALALUMPUR: The Immigration Department is going after agents, masterminds and syndicates involved in bringing in illegal immigrants via main national entry points.
Its director-general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali said the department would seek the cooperation of the police to prevent foreigners from entering the country illegaly via main entry points such as the KL International Airport.
“I have personally met with the police and other authorities to ensure it does not happen,” he said.
Mustafar was commenting on a news report that said a group of immigration officers had accepted between RM200 and RM2,500 to allow more than 16,000 foreigners to enter Malaysia since 2014.
The report stated the group amassed about RM18mil.
Mustafar said the department was reviewing standard operating procedures at entry points. — Bernama
