MCA: We will meet DPM over boy’s plight
PETALING JAYA: An 11-year-old boy, who is in despair for being stateless, will get a helping hand from MCA.
“We will seek help from Deputy Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi),” MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said.
He said MCA would help expedite Tan Jia Yi’s application for citizenship. Jia Yi’s plight came about when he was born a day before his Malaysian father and Indonesian mother registered their marriage.
His application for citizenship was denied by the National Registration Department.
Jia Yi’s three younger siblings are Malaysian citizens.
Dr Wee said yesterday he had spoken to the father, Tan Ban Guan, 45.
Ban Guan submitted his son’s application for citizenship three times in the last four years.
Earlier, Dr Wee who attended a networking conference, told reporters that Pakatan Harapan’s decision to accept Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia into its fold was not surprising as the Opposition parties were inclined to have a marriage of convenience.
They have just one thing in common – to topple the ruling government, he said.
