Anifah in US for IS threat meeting
PUTRAJAYA: Foreign Minister Datuk Sri Anifah Aman (pic) will be in Washington DC to attend the Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Global Coalition against Daesh tomorrow.
He will be accompanied by officials from his ministry.
Hosted by US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, the meeting seeks to intensify the campaign to defeat Daesh (IS) with the collaboration of the 68 partners of the Global Coalition.
It will also discuss issues such as addressing urgent humanitarian needs, mines clearance and stabili- sation assistance for newly liberated areas in Iraq and Syria from the control of IS.
The meeting is expected to identify the ideal mechanism to counter IS’ constant attacks that had caused the loss of innocent lives around the world and the spread of its extremism and ideology.
Anifah is also expected to speak at the meeting on threats posed by the IS from the national and regional perspectives.
He will also share Malaysia’s experience and ideas on countering terrorism and thwarting extremism.
Anifah will also take the opportunity to meet Tillerson for the first time to discuss issues of common interest, regional and global developments.
It will be his first working visit to the United States under the new administration of President Donald Trump.
Anifah’s participation reaffirms Malaysia’s support and commitment towards the Global Coalition in its campaign to defeat IS. — Bernama
