Hotel worker hits colleague, starts fire for RM1,000
IPOH: A hotel worker in Taiping donned a mask and used a car wrench to hit his colleague before helping himself to RM1,000 from a drawer.
In a bid to make good his escape, the 22-year-old started a fire at the hotel’s housekeeping store.
Taiping OCPD Asst Comm Harrith Kam Abdullah said that during the 5.35am incident yesterday, the suspect injured his 22-year-old colleague by hitting her on the head.
After hitting her, the suspect stole the money and ran towards the first floor of the building and started a fire at the store.
“There was thick, black smoke billowing from the store when the police arrived,” he said.
Police have arrested the suspect and recovered the stolen money.
He started working at the hotel last month, ACP Harrith said.
