Ho­tel worker hits col­league, starts fire for RM1,000

IPOH: A ho­tel worker in Taip­ing donned a mask and used a car wrench to hit his col­league be­fore help­ing him­self to RM1,000 from a drawer.

In a bid to make good his es­cape, the 22-year-old started a fire at the ho­tel’s house­keep­ing store.

Taip­ing OCPD Asst Comm Har­rith Kam Ab­dul­lah said that dur­ing the 5.35am in­ci­dent yes­ter­day, the sus­pect in­jured his 22-year-old col­league by hit­ting her on the head.

Af­ter hit­ting her, the sus­pect stole the money and ran to­wards the first floor of the build­ing and started a fire at the store.

“There was thick, black smoke bil­low­ing from the store when the po­lice ar­rived,” he said.

Po­lice have ar­rested the sus­pect and re­cov­ered the stolen money.

He started work­ing at the ho­tel last month, ACP Har­rith said.
