Going all out to improve the industry

MGA’s seminar aims to boost the different sectors of the game

THE Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) have confirmed that they will host a “Turf Seminar & Field Day” at Sutera Harbour Golf & Country Club in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The event has been scheduled for May 8.

It will be supported by Jebsen & Jessen, the Golf Club Managers’ Association of Malaysia, the Golf Course Superintendents’ Association of Malaysia and Sabah Golf Association.

“The main objective of organising this symposium is to boost the MGA’s efforts to assist its affiliates to improve and refresh their knowledge and skills in turf and golf management,” the association said in a statement.

“The Seminar & Field Day seeks to bring professionals from different golf sectors under one roof to engage and discuss issues pertinent to the industry.”

The seminar is tailored to meet the needs of the industry and the programme comprises two core components – field day and a conference agenda – topped with a dialogue session to discuss the diverse needs of golf management.

“It provides a forum for industry members to air issues that they might feel need airing and build a collaborative platform to jointly address these challenges.

“Today’s golf managers are facing increasing challenges to drive value for their members and could gain insights from regional industry leaders to create their own success,” added the statement.

“Potential speakers include Jack Cheong, Normas Yakin, Mohd Rom Muslim and Mohammed Ishak.”

MGA Education sub-committee chairman Mohd Rom said: “This is a great opportunity not only for course superintendents but also club managers to update their knowledge and skills to make sure their courses are kept in great shape and in good playing condition all-year round”.

Meanwhile, Normas said: “This is a rare, not to be missed, occasion in Malaysian golf where only local speakers will be in attendance.

“This event is suitable for local supervisors, superintendents, managers, players and senior management of not only golf clubs, but stadiums and parks too.”

The Turf Seminar & Field Day fee per delegate is RM150. Interested persons can call the MGA at 03-9283 7300 or email: sara@mgaonline.com.my
