Melaka CID chief freed on bail
PUTRAJAYA: A Melaka district CID chief under probe for alleged graft involving a vice den protection racket has been released on bail.
Magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Wan Ab Rahman allowed the release of the 49-yearold on RM50,000 bail yesterday.
The suspect, who holds the rank of deputy superintendent, had been under remand for seven days.
The CID chief is one out of 13 individuals who were picked up by the Malaysian AntiCorruption Commission (MACC) in an investigation into police protection of massage parlours and illegal gambling dens in Melaka.
Among those who have been arrested are the police chiefs of the Melaka Tengah and Jasin districts, two assistant superintendents, two inspectors and a corporal.
Others believed to be middlemen and gambling den operators were also hauled up in the swoop which saw a substantial amount of cash seized and accounts belonging to the suspects frozen.
The MACC had also found RM800,000 in cash in the storeroom of the corporal’s house.
Only two, an assistant superintendent and a middleman, remain under MACC custody while the others have already been released following the expiry of their remand periods.
