Penang CM’s info officer detained for sedition

GEORGE TOWN: Islamic preacher Wan Ji Wan Hussin has been detained by police for sedition.

The 35-year-old Wan Ji, who was recently appointed as informatio­n officer to Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, was arrested by a team from Bukit Aman around 2.45pm outside the Sembilang Mosque in Seberang Jaya yesterday.

Penang police chief Comm Datuk Wira Chuah Ghee Lye confirmed the arrest of Wan Ji, who is also the PKR Youth’s religious bureau chief.

It was learnt the arrest was made following a police report made in Kuala Lumpur recently.

Wan Ji is a graduate of Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt, with a degree in Shariah Islamiyyah.

He was appointed as the informatio­n officer on Sept 28.
