Pe­nang CM’s info of­fi­cer de­tained for sedi­tion

GE­ORGE TOWN: Is­lamic preacher Wan Ji Wan Hussin has been de­tained by po­lice for sedi­tion.

The 35-year-old Wan Ji, who was re­cently ap­pointed as in­for­ma­tion of­fi­cer to Chief Min­is­ter Lim Guan Eng, was ar­rested by a team from Bukit Aman around 2.45pm out­side the Sem­bi­lang Mosque in Se­berang Jaya yes­ter­day.

Pe­nang po­lice chief Comm Datuk Wira Chuah Ghee Lye con­firmed the ar­rest of Wan Ji, who is also the PKR Youth’s re­li­gious bu­reau chief.

It was learnt the ar­rest was made fol­low­ing a po­lice re­port made in Kuala Lumpur re­cently.

Wan Ji is a grad­u­ate of Al-Azhar Univer­sity in Cairo, Egypt, with a de­gree in Shariah Is­lamiyyah.

He was ap­pointed as the in­for­ma­tion of­fi­cer on Sept 28.
