KAJANG: A senior police officer was caught red-handed stealing from his neighbour’s house in Taman Bangi Avenue in Bangi.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussoff said the 31-year-old suspect, who is attached to Bukit Aman, was initially seen by members of the public acting suspiciously as he picked the lock of his neighbour’s back door at about 5pm on Thursday.

Police rushed to the scene after receiving a report and found a man with a knife coming down the stairs with a bag of stolen items.

“The suspect resisted as we tried to apprehend him. But we managed to take him to the Kajang district headquarters for further action,” he added.

The owner of the house, a financial consultant, rushed home and confirmed that the stolen items were his.

Among the items recovered was a personal computer, mobile phones and a couple of coin banks.

The suspect has been remanded until Monday.

In a separate case, a 34-year-old Indonesian maid has been arrested for stealing money from her employer.

ACP Ahmad Dzaffir said a 67-year-old insurance agent lodged a report that RM1,200 was missing from her handbag and suspected her maid.

“She realised the money was missing and called the driver who was sending the maid home to check her bag, and found the cash. He brought her back,” he said.

He said the maid has been remanded for four days.
