‘No short­age of Deep­avali essen­tials’

Sup­pli­ers and traders are co­op­er­at­ing, says Pa­hang of­fi­cial

RAUB: There are enough sup­plies of es­sen­tial items for the Deep­avali cel­e­bra­tion, es­pe­cially those un­der the price con­trol scheme.

The Pa­hang Do­mes­tic Trade, Co­op­er­a­tives and Con­sumerism Min­istry said the items in­clude lentils and mut­ton which are usu­ally in high de­mand dur­ing the fes­ti­val.

“Be­fore fix­ing the price con­trol, agen­cies such as the Fed­eral Agri­cul­ture Mar­ket­ing Au­thor­ity, Vet­eri­nar­ian De­part­ment and Lem­baga Ke­ma­juan Ikan Malaysia en­sured that there is enough sup­ply.

“Sup­pli­ers and traders are co­op­er­at­ing. If there is a need, we will in­crease stocks of the items,” said state direc­tor Sharud­din Jali af­ter the launch of the price con­trol scheme at a hy­per­mar­ket yes­ter­day.

Also present was Batu Talam as­sem­bly­man Datuk Ab­dul Aziz Mat Ki­ram.

Six­teen items have been put on the list, ef­fec­tive un­til Oct 22.

Sharud­din said the en­force­ment di­vi­sion is mo­bil­is­ing 280 of­fi­cers to mon­i­tor prices at hy­per­mar­kets, wet mar­kets and re­tail out­lets in the state. — Ber­nama
