Des­patch rider gets jail and rotan for rob­bery

KUALA LUMPUR: A des­patch rider was sen­tenced to eight years’ jail and two strokes of the cane by the Ses­sions Court here af­ter he was found guilty of rob­bery.

Judge Sham­sudin Ab­dul­lah handed down the sen­tence on Noorhisham Saif­ful Mohd, 25, af­ter find­ing that the de­fence had failed to raise rea­son­able doubts against the pros­e­cu­tion’s case.

Noorhisham was charged with an­other per­son still at large with rob­bing a busi­ness­woman Kee Siok Kuen, 38, of her hand­bag at Ta­man Se­jahtera here at 7.15pm on Dec 1 last year.

He was also sen­tenced to three years’ jail for caus­ing hurt on a se­cu­rity guard, Ravin­der Kurma, 27, of In­dian na­tion­al­ity, at the same place, time and date.
