Ahmad Husni confident of support from Tambun folk

IPOH: Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah ( pic), the Tambun MP who quit his Cabinet post two years ago, will be defending his parliamentary seat for the sixth time.

He quashed talk that his party division members had been giving him the cold shoulder.

“We work as a team. I believe everyone is mature enough.

“Not only are party members helping us out, we have also roped in non-governmental organisations’ members as part of our strategy,” he said after the list of Barisan Nasional candidates was unveiled yesterday.

Ahmad Husni, who resigned as Second Finance Minister and from all party posts two years ago, said he had been developing a larger network among people of all races.

“As a Cabinet minister, there is only a certain amount of time that I can spend with the people and hear them out.

“In the last two years, I’ve attended many functions and dialogue sessions. I have been sharing with the Prime Minister the grouses of the people, their needs and ideas, to ensure the best can be done for them.”

He voiced confidence that the Tambun constituents would still back him despite him having no minister’s post now.

International Trade and Industry Minister II Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan, the incumbent Tanjung Malim MP, has been dropped from the line-up.

“I accept this decision made by the party. And I will still be making the rounds throughout the country to assist the other MCA and Barisan candidates,” the MCA secretary-gen- eral said in a statement yesterday.

Ong also appealed to all his supporters to continue backing Barisan candidates to ensure their victory.

Perak MCA chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon, who is the incumbent Chenderiang state assemblyman, will contest in Tanjung Malim.

Thanking Ong who had laid the foundation there, he said: “I will give my all to win. I will ensure Tanjung Malim remains a fortress for MCA.”
