Mah: Candidates have served as coordinators in their respective areas
PETALING JAYA: Gerakan is set to contest 11 parliamentary and 31 state seats in the general election.
Leading the charge is party president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong, who is pitted against DAP’s Nga Kor Ming for the Teluk Intan parliamentary seat.
Vice-president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau is eyeing the Batu parliamentary seat, with deputy treasurer Datuk David Ang slotted for the Puchong parliamentary seat.
Party secretary-general Datuk Liang Teck Meng will defend his Simpang Renggam seat which he has held since 2008.
Others contesting include deputy president Datuk Dr Cheah Soon Hai for the Derga state seat in Kedah, while vice-president Datuk Seri Raymond Tan is slated for the Tanjong Papat state seat in Sabah.
Mah said Gerakan’s frontliners would give their best to the party and Barisan Nasional.
He said the candidates had served as coordinators in their respective divisions over the past four years.
“Their performance is acknowledged by the party and Barisan leadership,” he said in a statement.
A briefing by the top Gerakan leadership was held at the party headquarters on Monday.
“I urge all Gerakan members, friends of Barisan, voters and the local community to lend their sup- port to Barisan candidates to continue the nation-building agenda and to protect the welfare of the people,” said Mah.
Gerakan national disciplinary committee chairman Tan Sri Dr Chin Fook Weng warned party members that action would be taken against any member found to have sabotaged the party.
He said Gerakan members must respect and support the decision of the party on candidates chosen.
