Paraglider found dead in river
SUNGAI PETANI: A motorised paraglider who had been involved in the sport for four years was found dead in Sungai Kuala Muda.
Muhammad Khairun Naim Abdullah, 30, fell into the river after a suspected engine breakdown to his paramotor.
He had earlier taken off with a friend at Dataran Dato’ Ali Yahaya Sports Complex in Kota Kuala Muda at 8am yesterday.
Kuala Muda OCPD Asst Comm Adzli Abu Shah said Muhammad Khairun had secured the green light from the Department of Civil Aviation to carry out the activity, adding that he was a member of a paragliders’ association.
“Eyewitnesses said they were unable to reach him due to the river’s current. His body was found about 1km from where he fell,” he said.
Powered paragliding pilots wear motors on their backs that provide the thrust to take them off the ground.
