Lo­cal doc aims to be world’s fun­ni­est

PE­TAL­ING JAYA: Med­i­cal doc­tor-turned­stand-up co­me­dian Dr Ja­son Leong is among two Malaysian rep­re­sen­ta­tives at the Fun­ni­est Per­son In The World Con­test 2016, the world’s largest stand-up com­edy com­pe­ti­tion or­gan­ised by the Laugh Fac­tory.

Leong and his com­pa­triot, pop­u­lar co­me­dian Harith Iskan­der will com­pete with 87 other co­me­di­ans from 56 coun­tries to win the grand prize of US$100,000 (RM400,000) and a US stand-up com­edy tour.

Laugh Fac­tory was launched in Hol­ly­wood in 1979 and since then has es­tab­lished it­self as a global com­edy brand. It is the leader for world­wide com­edy tours, TV shows and movies. The Laugh Fac­tory chan­nel has over 210 mil­lion view­ers.

Laugh Fac­tory serves as the birth­place of many com­edy stars like Ed­die Murphy, Chris Rock, Dave Chap­pelle and Jerry Se­in­feld.

Vot­ing of Round One be­gan on Sept 1 and will end on Oct 1. The 20 co­me­di­ans with the high­est votes will pro­ceed to the semi-fi­nals in Helsinki, Fin­land, on Dec 4 and 5.

Harith is con­fi­dent that he will make it far in the com­pe­ti­tion. “My 26 years in com­edy gives me a strong chance to be a win­ner. I call on my fans to vote me to rep­re­sent our coun­try in the fi­nals, and show the world that we have world class stand-up co­me­di­ans.”
