SEPANG: Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai has confirmed that a large piece of debris found off the coast of Tanzania on June 20 was from the missing flight MH370.

He said this was following confirmation through investigation by the Australian authorities that the serial number and date of manufacturing of the outboard flap found was consistent with that of the illfated aircraft. “The serial number and date of manufacturing have been confirmed by Boeing and the retailing manufacturer as belonging to MAS.

“It was manufactured in early 2012 and was sent to MAS for the (MH370) plane in May that year. And according to the serial number, it matches MH370,” he told reporters after attending AirAsia’s launch of its latest aircraft, the Airbus A320neo, here, yesterday.

The Australian authorities had, in July, said it was “highly likely” the part came from the ill-fated Boeing. – by Amar Shah Mohsen
