KUALA LUMPUR: A motorist cheated death after plunging into a 10m-deep pit at a construction site near the Kampung Pandan roundabout here late yesterday.

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the 55-year-old male driver suffered serious injuries and was sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL), where he was warded last night.

It is learnt that the man was alone in his Kia Spectra at about 10.30pm when he was said to have unknowingly driven into the pit, which is part of a tunnel construction project in the area.

Firemen who arrived at the scene minutes later managed to winch the victim to safety before sending him to HKL.

Both victims were warded for their injuries and discharged within days.
