FOR­MER IN­DONE­SIAN LAW­MAKER JAILED FOR GRAFT

JAKARTA: An In­done­sian politi­cian was sen­tenced to four and a half years in jail on Mon­day for ac­cept­ing 8.1 bil­lion ru­piah (RM2.5 mil­lion) in bribe money when she was a leg­is­la­tor. The Jakarta anti-cor­rup­tion court found Da­mayanti Wisnu Pu­tranti guilty of abus­ing her po­si­tion to “en­rich her­self or oth­ers”. Pros­e­cu­tors said she re­ceived kick­backs from a com­pany in re­turn for help­ing it win a project to build roads in Maluku. She was dis­missed as a mem­ber of the rul­ing In­done­sian Demo­cratic Party of Strug­gle and stripped of her par­lia­ment seat in Jan­uary af­ter her ar­rest. – dpa
