Haron Din given posthumous award
SERDANG: Former PAS spiritual leader Datuk Haron Din was yesterday posthumously accorded the Maal Hijrah Special Award.
Haron, who passed away aged 76 on Sept 16 due to heart complications, is the sole recipient of the award.
His daughter Dr Huda Haron accepted the award, that includes RM100,000 cash, a medal and certificate, during the national-level Maal Hijrah celebrations here yesterday.
Despite supporting the Opposition in his youth, Haron had served in various integral positions at state and national level.
These included being a member of the Bank Negara Malaysia advisory board, Ulama Association of Malaysia Committee and the National Fatwa Council.
Haron had also contributed vastly to the Islamic traditional medicine industry, with the highlight being the establishment of the Darussyifa’ Islamic Treatment Centre.
Haron is survived by his wife Datin Khadijah Md Salleh and three daughters and two sons.
