Haron Din given post­hu­mous award

SERDANG: For­mer PAS spir­i­tual leader Datuk Haron Din was yes­ter­day posthu­mously ac­corded the Maal Hi­jrah Spe­cial Award.

Haron, who passed away aged 76 on Sept 16 due to heart com­pli­ca­tions, is the sole re­cip­i­ent of the award.

His daugh­ter Dr Huda Haron ac­cepted the award, that in­cludes RM100,000 cash, a medal and cer­tifi­cate, dur­ing the na­tional-level Maal Hi­jrah cel­e­bra­tions here yes­ter­day.

De­spite sup­port­ing the Op­po­si­tion in his youth, Haron had served in var­i­ous in­te­gral po­si­tions at state and na­tional level.

Th­ese in­cluded be­ing a mem­ber of the Bank Ne­gara Malaysia ad­vi­sory board, Ulama As­so­ci­a­tion of Malaysia Com­mit­tee and the Na­tional Fatwa Coun­cil.

Haron had also con­trib­uted vastly to the Is­lamic tra­di­tional medicine in­dus­try, with the high­light be­ing the es­tab­lish­ment of the Darussy­ifa’ Is­lamic Treat­ment Cen­tre.

Haron is sur­vived by his wife Datin Khadi­jah Md Salleh and three daugh­ters and two sons.
