Umno plans to ‘borrow’ MCA seat
JOHOR BARU: Pulai Umno division chief Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamad has proposed “borrowing” the Pengkalan Rinting state seat from MCA in the next general election.
“Our survey has shown that local Chinese voters are not ready to (accept an) MCA candidate. Pulai Umno wants to ‘borrow’ the Pengkalan Rinting seat from MCA. I am confident Umno can win the seat in the next election,” he told a press conference here. He said the local Chinese have issues with an MCA candidate but not one from Umno.
“We borrow the seat for this term and will return it to MCA after the political situation is more stable.” He said after the redelineation, Pengkalan Rinting will have its name changed to Perling and the composition of voters will be Malays at 25,633 (45.73%), Chinese at 23,555 (42.02%), Indians at 6,221 (11.1%) and other races at 647 (1.15%).
Currently, the Pengkalan Rinting assemblyman is Cheo Yee How of DAP.
