Leop­ard, python shock vil­lagers

JERANTUT: Set­tlers at Felda Kota Ge­langgi here, were shocked to dis­cover a clouded leop­ard crouch­ing un­der­neath a house yes­ter­day.

Dur­ing the 7.30am in­ci­dent, Ramli Oth­man, 60, said the wild cat was first spot­ted by his grand­child who in­formed him.

With a torch­light in hand, Ramli quickly went to the house with his friend to in­ves­ti­gate.

“When we got there we were un­able to spot it but heard a loud roar in­stead,” he said.

The Malaysian Civil De­fence Force were then called and with fur­ther as­sis­tance from the De­part­ment of Wildlife and Na­tional Parks (Per­hili­tan), the leop­ard was then suc­cess­fully cap­tured.

Mean­while, in Ge­lang Patah, a 6.7m python caused a stir when a fam­ily stum­bled upon it at their Kam­pung Pok home.

Fire and Res­cue De­part­ment per­son­nel said a team of five took about 30 min­utes to cap­ture the snake at about 10.42am yes­ter­day and it was then handed to Per­hili­tan.
