Three friends drown over lost slipper
KUALA LUMPUR: Three friends died because of a lost slipper at a waterfall near Batu 16, Jalan Gombak Lama yesterday.
In the 10.40am incident, 22year-old Muhammad Abdullah was with his five friends when his slipper fell into a gorge.
In his attempt to retrieve the slipper, he slipped and fell into the whirlpool below.
Muhammad was with five other friends at the time and two of them, Azrul Hisham Azman and Mohd Sazwan Rahim, both 27, dived in after him but no one survived as they were swept up in the swirling currents.
Muhammad was a student at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Azrul Hisham was a former IIUM student while Mohd Sazwan was doing his masters at the Islamic Science University Malaysia.
Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Ali Ahmad said the bodies were sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for post-mortem.
Meanwhile, a 49-year-old hiker died after he fell down a roughly 15-metre slope at Bukit Tabur in Ampang yesterday.
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Hamzah Alias said they were alerted about the incident involving the hiker – Goh Chong Teik, yesterday morning. Hamzah said that Goh had suffered severe bleeding to the head and was rushed to the Ampang hospital where he was pronounced dead. “His body has been sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a postmortem,” he said.
In another incident, a teenage student of an Arabic and Al-Quran school here is feared drowned after he slipped and fell into the Kuantan River near the Isap Damai River housing area here on Sunday.
Alif Lokman Hakim Azman, 13, fell into the river while walking along the riverbank at about 6.30pm.
