Three friends drown over lost slip­per

KUALA LUMPUR: Three friends died be­cause of a lost slip­per at a wa­ter­fall near Batu 16, Jalan Gom­bak Lama yes­ter­day.

In the 10.40am in­ci­dent, 22year-old Muham­mad Ab­dul­lah was with his five friends when his slip­per fell into a gorge.

In his at­tempt to re­trieve the slip­per, he slipped and fell into the whirlpool be­low.

Muham­mad was with five other friends at the time and two of them, Azrul Hisham Az­man and Mohd Sazwan Rahim, both 27, dived in after him but no one sur­vived as they were swept up in the swirling cur­rents.

Muham­mad was a stu­dent at the In­ter­na­tional Is­lamic Univer­sity Malaysia (IIUM). Azrul Hisham was a for­mer IIUM stu­dent while Mohd Sazwan was do­ing his mas­ters at the Is­lamic Sci­ence Univer­sity Malaysia.

Gom­bak OCPD Asst Comm Ali Ah­mad said the bod­ies were sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hos­pi­tal for post-mortem.

Mean­while, a 49-year-old hiker died after he fell down a roughly 15-me­tre slope at Bukit Tabur in Am­pang yes­ter­day.

Am­pang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Hamzah Alias said they were alerted about the in­ci­dent in­volv­ing the hiker – Goh Chong Teik, yes­ter­day morn­ing. Hamzah said that Goh had suf­fered se­vere bleed­ing to the head and was rushed to the Am­pang hos­pi­tal where he was pro­nounced dead. “His body has been sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hos­pi­tal for a post­mortem,” he said.

In another in­ci­dent, a teenage stu­dent of an Ara­bic and Al-Qu­ran school here is feared drowned after he slipped and fell into the Kuantan River near the Isap Da­mai River hous­ing area here on Sun­day.

Alif Lok­man Hakim Az­man, 13, fell into the river while walk­ing along the river­bank at about 6.30pm.
