SUSHI CHAIN STUNG BY ‘WASABI TER­ROR­ISM’

TOKYO: A Ja­panese sushi chain is be­ing ac­cused of “wasabi ter­ror­ism” after it ad­mit­ted to heap­ing ex­cess dol­lops of the fiery green paste into for­eign cus­tomers’ food. Ichibazushi apol­o­gised on Sun­day, own­ing up to the charges but deny­ing dis­crim­i­na­tion. It in­sisted the wasabi-laced sushi was a re­sponse to many for­eign­born pa­trons order­ing ex­tra por­tions of it. The chain ad­mit­ted some of its chefs had been too gen­er­ous with the condi­ment with­out check­ing with the cus­tomers first. – AFP
