Stay­ing fit with yoga

What are the lat­est fit­ness trends for women in Hong Kong and Asia? “Surf­set (ex­er­cis­ing on a surf­board), SUP Yoga (yoga on a stand-up pad­dle­board) and Barre are the lat­est fit­ness trends, espe­cially in Hong Kong.

“There are new stu­dios for Barre classes and lots of SUP Yoga classes dur­ing the sum­mer sea­son.

“In the past few years, dif­fer­ent styles of yoga have also grown in pop­u­lar­ity and many new trends have emerged.”

What do you think will be the next big thing in yoga? “In­cor­po­rat­ing yoga into your ev­ery­day life, and not only the mat.”

What is your own per­sonal favourite style of yoga and why? “Hatha, I like a nice and slow

paced deep stretch.”

As a cer­ti­fied yoga teacher, how would you ad­vise some­one who has never tried yoga be­fore to get started? “Re­lax, take a deep breath and try your best. Go with it, there’s no judg­ment, and ac­cept the trans­for­ma­tion that’s tak­ing place right be­fore you!”

And how can those who are al­ready yoga fans take their prac­tice to the next level? “In­cor­po­rate pranayama breath­ing ex­er­cises into your prac­tice. It’s an ac­tive med­i­ta­tion that helps to fur­ther cleanse your body and soul.” Other than yoga, how do you look after your own health on a daily ba­sis? “I like to wake up early and take long walks with my dog up the peak in Hong Kong.

“It’s my morn­ing med­i­ta­tion, and my quiet calm be­fore the start of busy day. It’s also breath­tak­ing to see the gor­geous views from the top!

“One of my morn­ing rit­u­als also in­cludes tak­ing a spoon­ful of ap­ple cider vine­gar to stim­u­late my di­ges­tion and to cleanse my sys­tem. It’s got a real kick!”

How can you en­sure you stay healthy through the change in sea­sons? “Def­i­nitely drink more warm teas and stay warm and hy­drated dur­ing the colder months.

“I also love cook­ing in the fall sea­son be­cause there are so many of my favourite sea­sonal fruits and veg­eta­bles avail­able. It’s a great time to cook more hearty meals.”

What is your favourite healthy break­fast to set you up for the day? “One full egg, one egg white and av­o­cado toast.”

And how do you like to re­fuel after a yoga work­out? “Co­conut water and al­monds.”

Do you have any guilty plea­sures that you like to in­dulge in? “I love spicy food – the spicier the bet­ter!”

Fi­nally, what is your motto for liv­ing a health­ier, fit­ter, and hap­pier life? “Ev­ery­thing in the uni­verse is within you. Ask all from your­self” – AFP-Re­laxnews
