The Land of Stories: An Author’s Odyssey

The Sun (Malaysia) - - THE RIGHT READ -

Author: Chris Colfer Publisher: Little Brown ISBN: 9780316272148

IN THIS fifth book of the series, twins Alex and Connor realise that the best way to defeat the Masked Man (who is also their evil uncle) and his cohorts in the Land of Stories is to get help from the characters that Connor has created.

This means they have to return to their old school where they meet their teacher who encourages Connor with his writing, and also their mother who has been sick with worry ever since the twins entered the world of stories.

This is not as exciting as the past four books, and Connor’s new characters are nowhere near as funny as the fairytale characters they met before.

Some elements of the story, as well as the humour, seem a little too forced.

Alex takes a back seat initially and things only get interesting for her after the second half of the book.

As far as this series goes, author Colfer (who is best known for his role as Kurt Hummel on the hit TV series Glee) should just wrap things up before even his most loyal fans stop caring. – S. Indra Sathiabalan
