Get in line

A GOOD eyeliner is the secret to good make-up in general.

“It makes the eyes look bigger and more expressive,” says Peter Schmidinger, an expert at the German Cosmetics Association. But it can be tricky to use.

“Liquid eyeliner is tougher than an eyeliner pencil and is something for the practised hand. Even the smallest mistake can be difficult to fix,” warns Schmidinger.

“However, with a steady hand you can end up with a defined line that emphasises the eyes.”

Schmidinger’s advice is to start drawing a line with the eyeliner in the middle of the eye. The most important thing is that the eyeliner looks clean and neat.

Schmidinger therefore recommends using the flat side of the brush, as well as making sure you have a very steady hand: “My tip is to powder the eyelid before applying the eyeliner, then it will not smudge as fast.” – dpa
