Exams chief backpedals on UEC issue
for the school, deemed a private secondary school given permission to operate in conformity with the National Education Policy, to conduct the UEC examination, which is meant only for Chinese independent schools.
According to a report in Sin Chew Daily yesterday, Deputy Education Minister Chong Sin Woon told a press conference at the ministry in Putrajaya on Tuesday that he had been told by the education director-general via WhatsApp that Nawal had prepared the notice of rescission on Oct 2.
Chong also disclosed that he had earlier in the day met Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, who made it clear that a letter addressed to the school last year, that stated the ministry had no objection to SM Chong Hwa conducting the UEC examination for its students, meant the students could sit for the examination.
Dong Jiao Zong, an entity comprising Dong Zong and Jiao Zong which sets the UEC test papers, said the examination will be held for the first time for SM Chong Hwa students simultaneously with 60 Chinese independent schools nationwide beginning on Oct 16.
