Ex­ams chief backpedals on UEC is­sue

Ac­cord­ing to a re­port in Sin Chew Daily yes­ter­day, Deputy Ed­u­ca­tion Min­is­ter Chong Sin Woon told a press con­fer­ence at the min­istry in Pu­tra­jaya on Tues­day that he had been told by the ed­u­ca­tion di­rec­tor-gen­eral via What­sApp that Nawal had pre­pared the no­tice of rescis­sion on Oct 2.

Chong also dis­closed that he had ear­lier in the day met Ed­u­ca­tion Min­is­ter Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, who made it clear that a let­ter ad­dressed to the school last year, that stated the min­istry had no objection to SM Chong Hwa con­duct­ing the UEC ex­am­i­na­tion for its stu­dents, meant the stu­dents could sit for the ex­am­i­na­tion.

Dong Jiao Zong, an en­tity com­pris­ing Dong Zong and Jiao Zong which sets the UEC test pa­pers, said the ex­am­i­na­tion will be held for the first time for SM Chong Hwa stu­dents si­mul­ta­ne­ously with 60 Chi­nese in­de­pen­dent schools na­tion­wide begin­ning on Oct 16.
