Oper­a­tor of home held

> Man ar­rested over video show­ing al­leged beat­ing of el­derly woman res­i­dent

MALACCA: The oper­a­tor of the All Mighty Old Folks Home in Kle­bang here was de­tained by po­lice yes­ter­day to as­sist in the in­ves­ti­ga­tion of a video show­ing an el­derly per­son be­ing abused at the cen­tre.

Malacca Cen­tral po­lice chief ACP Shaikh Ab­dul Adzis Shaikh Ab­dul­lah said the man, in his 50s, was ar­rested at the cen­tre at about 12.30am yes­ter­day.

Mean­while, ELLY FAZANIZA re­ports that the Malacca Wel­fare Depart­ment will place the 18 res­i­dents of the home in a govern­ment fa­cil­ity for the next three months.

“Some will be placed at Rumah Seri Ke­nan­gan Cheng while oth­ers have been sent to a hospi­tal for a med­i­cal check. We hope to lo­cate their next-of-kin within three months,” said the state’s Women, Fam­ily Devel­op­ment and Wel­fare Com­mit­tee chair­man Datuk Lati­pah Omar when con­tacted yes­ter­day.

She said if their fam­i­lies can­not be lo­cated, the res­i­dents will be placed in an­other home un­der their purview.

On the woman shown in the video be­ing re­peat­edly as­saulted by a care giver, Lati­pah said: “She is now with her fam­ily.”

She also said there had been re­ports on the con­di­tion of the home.

“We brought the mat­ter up dur­ing our exco meet­ing and sent our officers to in­spect the premises ear­lier this month. “How­ever, we had hoped to solve it in­ter­nally but with the video made public now, we have to shut the premises down im­me­di­ately,” she said.

Of­fi­cials from the depart­ment said there had been re­ports of the res­i­dents not be­ing fed by the care givers, but when ques­tioned by the officers dur­ing the in­spec­tion vis­its, the res­i­dents de­nied it.
