Operator of home held
> Man arrested over video showing alleged beating of elderly woman resident
MALACCA: The operator of the All Mighty Old Folks Home in Klebang here was detained by police yesterday to assist in the investigation of a video showing an elderly person being abused at the centre.
Malacca Central police chief ACP Shaikh Abdul Adzis Shaikh Abdullah said the man, in his 50s, was arrested at the centre at about 12.30am yesterday.
Meanwhile, ELLY FAZANIZA reports that the Malacca Welfare Department will place the 18 residents of the home in a government facility for the next three months.
“Some will be placed at Rumah Seri Kenangan Cheng while others have been sent to a hospital for a medical check. We hope to locate their next-of-kin within three months,” said the state’s Women, Family Development and Welfare Committee chairman Datuk Latipah Omar when contacted yesterday.
She said if their families cannot be located, the residents will be placed in another home under their purview.
On the woman shown in the video being repeatedly assaulted by a care giver, Latipah said: “She is now with her family.”
She also said there had been reports on the condition of the home.
“We brought the matter up during our exco meeting and sent our officers to inspect the premises earlier this month. “However, we had hoped to solve it internally but with the video made public now, we have to shut the premises down immediately,” she said.
Officials from the department said there had been reports of the residents not being fed by the care givers, but when questioned by the officers during the inspection visits, the residents denied it.
