VIET­NAMESE MONK KILLS ONE, IN­JURES FIVE

HANOI: A fight erupted at a pagoda in Ho Chi Minh City on Wed­nes­day that left one per­son dead and five oth­ers in­jured. Thien Huy used a knife to stab Nguyen Tue, a friend and fel­low monk at the Buu Quang Pagoda, a re­port said. Oth­ers in­ter­vened but were se­ri­ously in­jured by Huy, in­clud­ing an un­named woman pray­ing at the pagoda who was killed, the Tuoi Tre news­pa­per said. The killer was even­tu­ally over­pow­ered by by­standers. Ini­tial in­ves­ti­ga­tion con­cluded that a con­flict had arisen among the monks be­fore Huy be­gan at­tack­ing. – dpa
