UN IN­VITED TO LOOK AT DRUG WAR DEATHS

MANILA: The Philip­pines has in­vited a United Na­tions’ in­ves­ti­ga­tor to probe a spate of killings un­der Pres­i­dent Ro­drigo Duterte’s drug war, his spokesman Ernesto Abella said Wed­nes­day. The gov­ern­ment is wait­ing for a re­ply from Agnes Cal­la­mard, the UN spe­cial rap­por­teur on ex­tra­ju­di­cial killings, re­gard­ing the in­vi­ta­tion, he said. The gov­ern­ment also urged Cal­la­mard “to in­clude in her in­ves­ti­ga­tion the killings of law en­forcers by drug sus­pects so that she could ob­tain an ac­cu­rate per­spec­tive of the drug prob­lem in the coun­try”. – dpa
