Impacting lives through educational grants
THE Disted 2016 Scholarship and Bursary Awards Fund granted a total of 300 students with over RM950,000 worth of educational and financial aid at a ceremony recently. Officiating the auspicious event was Disted College president and CEO Dr Seah Soo Aun. Also present was Tan Sri Chin Fook Weng, representing the board of directors, along with other prominent individuals.
For eight years, the Disted Scholarship and Bursary Award Fund has partnered with Wawasan Education Foundation and Yeap Chor Ee Charitable Trust to proffer educational and financial grants totalling over RM8 million. These plus financial support have helped over 2,000 deserving students, improving their lives in various ways.
PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES Among the Disted Bursary Award recipients is Ding Teck Song, visuallyimpaired due to an accident. Having applied for many scholarships before, yet unsuccessful, the bursary from Disted now sees a grateful Ding pursuing a Diploma in Business Information Technology programme.
Former South Australia Certificate of Education (SACE) International student Goo Lyann attended an awards presentation ceremony recently to receive the “Best Performance Prize” and “Best Subject Performance Prize”. Goo scored exceptionally well in five subjects – English as a second language, psychology, economics, accounting and Malay studies.
“This scholarship and award marks a milestone in my academic life. They have helped me with my confidence in furthering my studies while also resembling tokens of recognition from Disted,” said Goo, currently pursuing a psychology degree at a local university. AWARDS AND GRANTS Disted College provides educational assistance through five main grants, namely: the Wawasan Education Foundation Award and the Yeap Chor Ee Charitable Trust Award; the Disted Merit Award; the Disted Degree Award; the Disted President’s Scholar Award; and the Disted Sport Excellence Award.
Award applicants need to meet a number of requirements, terms and conditions. Criteria that will be looked into include academic achievements, socioeconomic background and extracurricular activities among others areas.
