CHUCK BERRY GREETS 90 WITH NEW AL­BUM RE­LEASE

NEW YORK: Rock pi­o­neer Chuck Berry turned 90 yes­ter­day with the sur­prise an­nounce­ment that he plans to re­lease his first al­bum in decades. Berry said he recorded the al­bum – en­ti­tled sim­ply Chuck – at stu­dios in his na­tive St Louis and will re­lease it next year. Con­sid­ered one of the cre­ators of rock ‘n’ roll, Berry helped de­fine 1950s youth cul­ture and shaped mu­sic by bring­ing to­gether rhythm and blues, coun­try gui­tar and con­sum­mate stage show­man­ship. His 1958 song Johnny B. Goode is one of the most recog­nis­able in popular mu­sic. – AFP
