RM10,000 re­ward over threats to so­cial ac­tivists

KUALA LUMPUR: DAP will of­fer a cash re­ward of RM10,000 to any­one with in­for­ma­tion on the peo­ple be­hind the threats made against sev­eral so­cial ac­tivists, in­clud­ing Ber­sih 2.0 chair­man Maria Chin Ab­dul­lah.

Segam­but MP Lim Lip Eng said the bounty is also ex­tended to po­lice per­son­nel with ev­i­dence that could lead to the ar­rest of the re­spon­si­ble par­ties.

Lim said the party is act­ing on be­half of the con­cerned cit­i­zens and sym­pha­tis­ers over the threats re­ceived by Ber­sih.

“We are of­fer­ing a cash re­ward of RM10,000 to any in­di­vid­ual or par­ties in­clud­ing the po­lice. The in­for­ma­tion shall lead to the ar­rest of those who sent ter­ror­is­ing pho­tos to Am­biga, Maria and Man­deep,” he told a press con­fer­ence at the Par­lia­ment lobby yes­ter­day.

Maria re­vealed on Tues­day that she and her fam­ily re­ceived death threats via What­sApp al­legedly signed by the Is­lamic State Malaysia ter­ror cell.

Hu­man Rights So­ci­ety chair­man Am­biga Sreenevasan and Ber­sih sec­re­tariat mem­ber Man­deep Singh were also tar­geted as pho­to­shopped im­ages went vi­ral of a man dressed in black and wear­ing a bal­a­clava hold­ing Maria, Am­biga and Man­deep at knife point.
