Anwar told to pay RM100,000
PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has been ordered by the Court of Appeal here to pay RM100,000 costs after he lost his appeal on a defamation suit against Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman.
A three-member panel allowed Anifah’s appeal for a higher amount of legal costs for the proceedings at the High Court which had only awarded RM20,000. His counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah had also requested another RM50,000 costs for the Appeals Court proceedings after it rejected Anwar’s appeal against the High Court’s dismissal of his lawsuit over Anifah’s statement at a conference in the United States in 2009. – Bernama
