Bersih: We always comply
PETALING JAYA: Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah has denied the group does not notify authorities when organising its gatherings.
She was responding to a claim by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar that the organisation does not provide notice and that police would not allow the Bersih 5 rally to proceed without such a requirement.
Maria Chin said they have always submitted notices or letters to the authorities seeking approval for any event they intend to hold.
“Every event that we organised, we always submitted a notice or letter to (Khalid) and the Dang Wangi district police headquarters, seeking their permission.
“However, it is they who refuse to accept the notice or letter and this has happened not once but repeatedly,” Maria Chin told a press conference at the Bersih office yesterday.
On when they intend to submit the forms to the authorities, she said it will be done soon as they are finalising the details.
Maria Chin said Dataran Merdeka will be the main venue for the Bersih 5 rally next month, adding that more details will be announced next week.
