GEMAS: Three commandos of the army’s elite special forces were seriously injured during an exercise in explosives training at the Syed Sirajuddin Army camp here yesterday.
Mohd Adha Hadli, Mohd Helmi Mat Desa and Anuar Abdullah, who are all lance corporals from the 22 KDO commando squad and believed to be in their 20s, suffered serious burns when an explosive went off at close range at about 2pm.
The soldiers were carrying out a special explosion exercise when the incident happened.
The Malaysian Army (TDM) public relations department said yesterday that the three men were treated at a hospital in their camp before they were transferred to the Segamat Hospital in Johor at about 3pm.
The TDM said doctors who examined Mohd Adha found that he suffered 18% burns to his body while Anuar and Mohd Helmi suffered 11% and 15% burns respectively.
It has formed a special investigations team to ascertain the cause of the explosion.
The TDM said it will provide further details of the case in due time.
